Great news! Following on from last year’s missed opportunity, where my WHW Race date coincided with the TORQ 2013 Training Day, I have been successful in being shortlisted for the ‘Trail Running Team’ 2014! 😀 – sponsored by Berghaus – TORQ Running – LED Lenser AND my ‘regular’ read the ‘Trail Running Magazine’ 😉
This year my race calendar is allowing me the opportunity to head south, for a ‘dirty’ weekend, with some other likeminded trail runners, doing what we all do best – hitting the trails and hills of the Lake District @ Helvellyn. This is going to be one EPIC weekend of education and adventure!!!!
The aim with the Trail Running Team 2014 is not just to pick a handful of runners for the team, but rather to start building a community of like-minded runners, with a place to inspire, inform, share tips ‘n’ tricks, questions and results. It has already been confirmed that Steve Birkenshaw will join us and speak at the event, with yet more to come…
From this ‘shortlisted’ group of trail runners, there will be a selection process and evaluation, leading onto some of us having the opportunity of a lifetime in being guided and mentored, with opportunities to experience a running calendar year like no other…!
Those successful in being selected for the team will spend a year as part of the The Trail Running Team, with many of the benefits usually only available to professional teams, including:
- £1000 worth of Berghaus kit
- Nutritional products from TORQ Fitness
- A three day training and preparation trip running in the Alps around the UTMB course (weather dependent) around Chamonix from 1st to 3rd July 2014
- Appearances in features in Trail Running Magazine
- Support and advice throughout the season
One runner from last year’s ‘Trail Team’, that I followed was Ruben Tabner. Ruben has a similar ‘bucket list’ f races similar to myself, one of those being the MDS and the breathtaking Ocean Floor Race – images from this race look out of this world. Ruben also ran the TDS in Chamonix last year and I’m hoping to be as successful as him, by gaining my very own North Face Gilet by completing the UTMB!!! – here’s hoping…!
